Yes on kids' vaccine
Pfizer is now going to fast-track its request for an emergency declaration on a vaccine for children ages 5 through 11.
To those of us who have loved ones in that age range, allow me to be among those who will urge the federal medical gurus to grant Pfizer the authorization it seeks to begin delivering shots to those children.
A little birdie tells me that our particular loved one has grown weary of the mask and social distancing at her school. She doesn’t like needles and likely will not “enjoy” getting inoculated against the COVID-19 virus that is still making Americans sick … albeit at a declining rate, which is a very good thing to be sure.
My particular hope is that Collin County, Texas, where we all live will get busy and start distributing the vaccine when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gives the all clear. Then it will fall on the Food and Drug Administration to deliver the OK on full vaccination authority.
We remain cautiously optimistic and hopeful that the pandemic will be brought under control once enough of us get vaccinated. Pfizer has moved rapidly to develop a dosage that works for our youngsters. I am going to hope that our young people will be lining up soon for their vaccines to ensure further blanket immunity from the killer virus.
As President Biden and others have warned us, the current spike in the pandemic is mainly among “the unvaccinated.” We are moving closer to being able to declare victory in this war against the pandemic.
