Who's she calling 'traitor'?
So … it has come down to this.
Those who vote the “wrong” way on a budget package are now presumed to be “traitors” to the nation, that they should be — under the rule of law — be tried and then convicted of treason.
The penalty for a guilty verdict is to be executed. Yes, put to death!
That is the message that the likes of some right-wing goofballs in Congress are delivering today in the wake of the bipartisan vote to approve a $1.1 trillion spending package presented by President Biden and pushed through Congress.
I am talking specifically about the QAnon queen herself, U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Georgia nut job who said that those Republicans who voted for the package should be deemed traitors. Yes, traitors! She said that. Out loud. For others to hear. It got to little ol’ me far away in North Texas.
If we’re going to toss out labels such as “traitor” and “treason,” then perhaps we ought to look at what transpired on 1/6, that day when a mob of terrorists stormed Capitol Hill in an effort to stop the certification of votes cast by the Electoral College; the votes certified President Biden’s election in 2020. The mob sought to overturn the result of a free, fair and legal election.
Oh, and Marjorie Taylor Greene — and others within the Republican caucus in Congress — cheered them on all the way! Yes, they did that even though the rioters posed a serious and dire threat to every human being on duty that day in Congress. MTG was one of them. But, hey … that’s all right because they were seeking to reverse an outcome that MTG didn’t like.
Those are the traitors with whom we need to deal.
