Liz Cheney strikes back
Liz Cheney appears to be a dead woman walking
I mean that the Republican U.S. congresswoman has torched her standing with the cultists in Wyoming who comprise the GOP voting electorate that she is more unafraid than ever to slap back at Donald Trump’s efforts to undermine her quest for the truth behind the 1/6 insurrection on Capitol Hill.
Trump has endorsed one of the challengers Cheney is facing at home in next year’s GOP primary. He routinely chastises her for speaking out against the incitement Trump delivered prior to the mob marching on the U.S. Capitol on 1/6.
Cheney, though, calls Trump the purvey or of The Big Lie — that the 2020 election was stolen. She is acting very much like someone who is unafraid to face whatever political fate awaits her back home.
The cultists who adhere to this slavish loyalty to the 45th POTUS think Cheney is vulnerable out west in her home state. That might be the case, given what I understand is the GOP base’s fealty to Trump.
In a way that has liberated Cheney, giving her a platform to tell what she believes is the truth about her party. That it has lost its way. That it no longer believes in defending the Constitution, but rather in protecting the ample backside of an individual who is seeking to undermine our democratic republic.
As I have noted already, Liz Cheney is not my kind of congresswoman. On this matter, though, she is acting on a tried-and-true principle that the oath she takes to protect the Constitution is far more sacred than any phony oath of loyalty to a power-hungry zealot.
