A COVID death ... and a shrug
I am not proud of what I am feeling at this moment about someone who just died of COVID-19 complications, but I feel the need to share a couple of thoughts about it all.
Marcus Lamb was a Christian televangelist. He also was a noted anti-vaxxer, someone who dismissed the danger associated with the killer virus. Then he was stricken with COVID-19.
He died. My lack of pride in my reaction stems from his haranguing about the disease, the vaccines that have been developed to protect us against its effects. My inclination when I hear about those who fall ill to the virus has been to rally beside them and to express sadness, if not sorrow, when they don’t make it.
Marcus Lamb’s death, though, has produced nothing more than shrug and the thought that, well, he mighta had it coming. I know it’s not charitable to think such things. However, I am trying to make peace with my conscience about it.
Daystar Television Network, which carries Marcus Lamb’s messages, asked for “privacy” for the man’s family and asked that we all “pray” for them.
I’ll tell you what my prayer will be. It will be that the family realizes the error of the Marcus Lamb’s message that the vaccines are a mistake, that they don’t prevent serious illness and death. He now has offered himself as proof that the medical experts are correct, that the vaccines work, that COVID is a dire threat to people’s health and that we need to follow the advice given by the likes of President Biden and his medical team.
It is to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
